Charting the Course Together: Building New England’s Future Workforce Through Adult Education

• October 14, 2026
• Sebasco Harbor Resort | Phippsburg, Maine

The National Coalition for Literacy (NCL), in partnership with the Maine Adult Education Association (MAEA), will convene adult education, workforce development, career and technical education, employer, and other key stakeholders from across New England for a regional conversation about the future of work and the critical role of adult education in building the workforce of tomorrow.

Building on NCL’s National Adult Education & Literacy Stakeholder Summit held in Las Vegas in March 2026, this interactive regional convening will explore the forces shaping the future workforce and what adult education systems and programs must do to prepare learners for emerging opportunities and changing skill demands. Participants will engage in facilitated discussions focused on shared policy priorities, innovative practices and services, skills-based approaches, career pathways, and stronger cross-sector partnerships.

The event will provide an opportunity for leaders from across New England to learn from one another, identify common challenges and opportunities, and consider how adult education, workforce development, CTE, employers, and other partners can work together more effectively to build a skilled, adaptable, and inclusive regional workforce.

The goal is not simply to discuss the future, but to identify shared priorities, promising strategies, and opportunities for collective action that strengthen adult education’s role as an essential part of New England’s workforce infrastructure.

The symposium will be followed by the MAEA Annual Conference, October 15–16.  In addition, NCL will be providing a session track at the MAEA Conference on Leadership, Policy and Advocacy
